Waste Management Inc. of Florida serves its customers within Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties through the operation of a Class III materials recovery facility within each county. The facilities were originally designed and permitted by others, and greatly improved after acquisition by WMIF. S2Li was selected by WMIF to prepare and submit renewal applications to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and to Pinellas County, that clearly demonstrated facility improvements and compliance with design and operational requirements implemented after submission of prior applications.

With an eye toward the future, the applications were prepared in compliance with both existing and pending State of Florida and Pinellas County permitting requirements. Special attention was given to the methods used to segregate C&D wastes from Class III wastes, to the management of special wastes inadvertently unloaded at the MRFs, to the collection, storage and removal of leachate, and to compliance with newly enacted management requirements for the processing of yard wastes. Site visits with WMIF and FDEP representatives proved useful in demonstrating facility compliance.
